There is thunder in our hearts
I am really into canvas tote bags. A canvas tote is perfect in its simplicity, utility and lightness. Although I own a large leather Chloe bag (sublime but fussy), nearly every day I leave the house with a canvas bag instead. My collection grows selectively. While I could buy a shopping bag at any corner store, I prefer to seek out ones with special meaning, revealing a bit of my personality...

Chicago's Lurie Gardens on Film
This week I spent some time basking in the glory of the Lurie Gardens in Millennium Park. After 5 years of living in Chicago, I am still amazed by the quiet beauty found even in the very middle of the city.
A guide to the flower types:

Edradour - Scotland's Smallest Distillery
The main purpose of my trip to Scotland was to tour single malt whisky distilleries. Edradour was one of the last I stopped by in the Highlands, on the way to Edinburgh. Edradour is the self-proclaimed “smallest distillery in Scotland.” It could also advertise itself as one of the friendliest, as we chatted with the woman working at the bar for a good hour while tasting various...

Strolling Through Dublin
Dublin is full of softly moody sights and casually friendly people and an endless assortment of pubs. Which makes the city uniquely fit for strolling, until you need a rest and a pint, then strolling some more.

On the Road in Scotland
Much of my time in Scotland was spent watching the scenery roll by from the passenger seat of the rental car. The roads were narrow, twisted, and nearly deserted, making for a much different experience than riding in the States. Oh, we got a flat tire one day and I helped by taking pictures of it.

Hiking the Falls of Bruar in Scotland
While near Blair Atholl in Scotland, we hiked the Falls of Bruar, following these helpful instructions. The scenery was beautiful (so green!) and the walk took only an hour.

Blair Castle in Scotland
I wish I’d gotten closer to the peacocks, but my lens was only 50 mm and the birds looked mean.

Bed & Breakfast in Scotland
Some morning photos from the lovely Roseburn B&B in Pitlochry.
Nothing like a traditional Scottish breakfast after a late night. :)

Queen's View, Scotland
Driving through the Scottish countryside, I made sure that we sought out Queen’s View near Pitlochry, so named for Queen Victoria’s visit in 1866. We drove up a twisty and narrow single track road to reach the spot - worth the trouble for the view that is indeed fit for a queen.

Edinburgh in Black & White
During my tour of Scotland, stayed for two days in Edinburgh. Although it rained the whole time, I spent hours walking around and enjoying the beauty of the old city.

davidczheng asked: Although I use both a Nikon FM2 and a Minolta X-700, I find myself gravitating towards the Minolta because of its aperture priority mode. This really helps me grab candid shots and also prevents my subjects from waiting too long for a shot. So, I was wondering if you have a similar problem, where from using the FM2, you miss opportune moments because you have to spend time setting everything?...

Isle of Skye, Scotland
I spent one night on Skye, an island on the west coat of Scotland. Craggy hills, foggy beaches, single track dirt roads, and of course sheep.

Guinness Brewery in Dublin
I’m a big fan of Guinness, so visiting the brewery in Dublin was a treat. The pints there were ooooh so smooth!

Taking the Picture
Looking through old snapshots, I noticed one of me photographing my husband at a castle in France, taken by our friend Trisha, and thought, “Hey, I know exactly which picture I was taking at that moment.”
Viola.
Kinda cool to compare.
