My Chicago Alley
While running out the door for my film photography boot camp, I realized I still had several frames to shoot on the color film already loaded in my camera. That meant I had to quickly finish the role during the two-block walk to the class. I shot these photos in the span of three minutes in my alley.
Not the best or most interesting set of photos, but my Chicago alley does have...

Chicago Fall in B&W
Fall is all about the brilliant colors, but the season shines through even in black and white. Here are some more pictures I took and developed myself during my film bootcamp yesterday.

Film Photography Boot Camp
My one major photography goal for this fall was to learn to develop my own film. Check! I spent all Sunday participating in a film photography boot camp. I’m proud to say - for the first time - that I developed all of the photos posted here myself at the bootcamp.
For fantastic tutorials on developing black and white film, see The Art of Black and White Film Processing by From Me To...

La Taverne Alsacienne
While in the Alsace region of France, we enjoyed a very large lunch of traditional food with a great group of people. My husband was most impressed with the heaps of meat on his plate, while I was most impressed with the aperitifs and bottles of wine that came naturally with the meal.
Who would have guessed that one of my favorite meals in France would be at an unassuming country...

Instax: The Michigan Avenue Bridge
During my lunch break today I headed to Michigan Avenue where it crosses the Chicago river. I wanted to get some Fuji Instax shots of the view there - my favorite in the city. I’m happy with the results and I’m really loving this new instant camera!
For these last two photos, I put the setting on “dark” (out of “normal” “light”...

First shots from my Fuji Instax 210
I recently bought a Fuji Instax 210 and took a few pictures of an idyllic fall day. Already I’m very happy with the results, although I’m still learning how it handles lighting and framing.
I love how easy and inexpensive the film is compared to Polaroid. More details later.

Shooting Ektar 100 film at 1600 ISO
Oops. Next time I take out a roll of Ilford Delta 3200 and put in Kodak Ektar 100, I will be extra sure to change the ISO setting on my camera accordingly.
I was really disappointed when I got my film back, but now I appreciate the unique eerie effect. And I know a new way to manipulate images in the future, if I ever want to recreate this.

Paris: Amelie's Montmartre
The Moulin Rouge, the Basilica, the best view of Paris: all of these are top reasons to visit the Montmartre neighborhood in Paris. Another reason is the home of Amelie. The first shot here is of the now-famous brasserie where Amelie worked. All of the other photos are from the surrounding area.
You can see my Polaroid photos of Montmartre here.

More Digital from the Chicago Theater
Now I’m going all out and posting more digital photos - and these have been altered in Lightroom using the “Heirloom” preset.
God help me. ;)
Seriously though, I do love my DSLR. She’s been a great teacher so far - the ability to get instant feedback and take a huge amount of photos without paying for processing is very helpful for a beginner like me,...

Versailles: Inside the Palace II
Many photos from France are still waiting to be posted. I did not realize at the time that I shot so many rolls of films during vacation, especially the one day I toured Versailles. Apparently I was overwhelmed with the eye candy before me.
These photos differ from my first set of “Inside the Palace” shots in that I used Kodak Ektar 100 film here and Kodak Ultra...

Versailles: Le Grand Trianon
Versailles is a huge place with many attractions. Here is a set showing the Grand Trianon, a smaller palace built for the King to kick back and relax.
I did not take a lot of photos here, comparatively, because I was more interested in getting back to the bicycles that we rented to ride around the grounds. A highly recommended way to explore Versailles!
My previous...

France: Castle in Black and White
I visited the Chateau du Haut-Koenigsbourg while in Alsace. The castle is currently French but has also been controlled by Germany in the past.
I shot these photos using Ilford Delta 3200 film with my ISO set at 1600. The castle was very dark, so I’m happy that these photos came out at all. This was a good opportunity to play with light and shadows - it’s not everyday I get to...
